Adelphi Director, Bruce Horsburgh, was the structural director responsible for the redevelopment of this former girls school in a conservation area in the suburbs of Newcastle.

 

The project required the safe demolition of a number of school buildings, conversion of the old gatehouse, 16 new million pound plus houses, and new build steel framed townhouses with parking below.

 

In addition, Bruce designed a 3/4 storey apartment block with concrete podium slab at first floor carrying load bearing masonry structure above, supported by significant steel transfer structures, that were, in turn, built off piled substructure so that the foundations wouldn’t harm the 150 year old trees on the site.
