CO. DURHAM

WORLD HERITAGE SITE

CLIENT: Dean and Chapter

VALUE: £48m

Adelphi Director, Bruce Horsburgh, has been involved with Durham Cathedral for a number of years, with regards to ongoing maintenance and the Open Treasures Project.

Delivering civil and structural engineering services for this multi-million project to create a new exhibition space, education and visitor facilities within the cloistral range of this World Heritage Site. The project involved new build elements as well as sensitive intervention to the existing historic fabric.  Durham is one of only two British Cathedrals, the other being Chester, to have a complete range of cloistral buildings. The £48million project encompasses new exhibition areas, with controlled environment spaces, retail area and temporary garden café.

The above project was carried out whilst working for Patrick Parsons Consulting Engineers
